International Monetary Fund warned that emerging markets must grapple with post-pandemic risks from tougher global financial conditions, the fragmentation of world trade into rival blocs and the impact of climate change. Those forces are “transforming the economic landscape and making the world more volatile and uncertain,” Gita Gopinath, the fund’s No. 2 official, said at a central banking conference in Cape Town, South Africa on Friday. Addressing those interconnected challenges will require an array of tools, she said, including more efficiently raising revenue and spending, diversifying trade, accelerating reforms to attract more investment, and implementing fiscally and socially sustainable climate strategies. Global interest rates could remain high “for quite some time” amid the fight against inflation, she said, adding that average long-term yields on emerging market dollar bonds have risen about 200 basis points — meaning their borrowing costs are higher — since the Federal Reserve began tightening policy.

The kingdom is considering selling a stake of as much as $50 billion, people familiar with the potential deal said, an amount that would be the largest offering in the history of capital markets. After monthslong consultations with advisers, the kingdom has decided to host any new Aramco offering on the Riyadh exchange to avoid legal risks associated with an international listing, according to Saudi officials and other people familiar with the plan.

The alliance is attempting to wrest back political momentum from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, which sparked furious speculation with the surprise declaration of a special session of Parliament in the third week of September.

Opposition parties have questioned the government's motive of convening a special session of Parliament and the intention and feasibility of holding all polls together once in five years. Sensing the government move to dictate the electoral agenda and strategy, the Opposition claimed the government was concerned and jittery about Opposition unity and the moves of the INDIA bloc.
