Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli open up about their faith in the divine
Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli is not their tremendous records, but their on-field aggression and sheer passion for the game, which make them formidable opponents. Both Gambhir and Kohli may come across as tough players who have won many matches for India and are true inspirations for budding cricketers due to their various qualities. However, when it comes to drawing their inner strength in times of need, both turn to God or the divine. Presence of carcinogenic chemicals in cars: NGT issues notice to BIS, MoRTH
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a reply from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and others in a matter regarding the use of cancer-causing chemicals in cars. The tribunal was hearing a matter where it had taken suo motu (on its own) cognisance of a media report regarding the use of two flame retardant chemicals inside cars — - TDCIPP and TCEP — - which were carcinogenic. In an order passed last week, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted the reply of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) that it did not have the facilities to test whether these substances were carcinogenic. The bench, also comprising judicial member Justice Sudhir Agarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had filed a report dated September 10 where it did not take a «definite stand» on whether these chemicals were carcinogenic.

Gambhir-led coaching staff has different style compared to Dravid but that's no problem: Rohit
Rohit Sharma on Tuesday said head coach Gautam Gambhir's style is different from his predecessor Rahul Dravid but insisted that he has a good understanding with the new appointee. Rohit was addressing the media ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh beginning in Chennai on Wednesday. «Obviously Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour and Paras Mhambrey were a different team and it is only acceptable that the new support staff will bring different perspective,» Rohit said in the pre-match press conference. «New coaching staff has different style but there is no problem. Good understanding is important, and I have that with Gambhir,» he added on his dynamics with the new head coach.

Upskilling is how you make AI work for you
IT industry to continuously upskill its talent pool, top executives and experts caution. The country has to not just skill but unskill quickly, they said. “A GCC (global capability centre) of some bank in the US that’s got 10,000 people here is asking the question – why do I need these people in India when a model I’m running under my desktop can do or generate the same thing?” Nigel Vaz, CEO of global digital business transformation company Publicis Sapient, told ET in a recent interview.

Retail users power up e-Rupee transactions
Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), or e-rupee, is gaining traction among retail users, with the Reserve Bank of India widening the scope of participation. E-rupee worth ₹234.12 crore was in circulation as of March 2024, compared with ₹16.3 crore a year earlier, according to RBI data. «The multi-fold jump could be due to a few big banks pushing CBDC wallets among their employees,» said a senior banker. «The rise in CDDC transactions could be because the banking regulator has allowed interoperability between CBDC and Unified Payments Interface,» the same person said.

Air in your car cabin could lead to cancer, neurological, and reproductive issues: Here’s what study says
National Green Tribunal (NGT) by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has revealed that some flame-retardant chemicals found in car cabin air, which may be carcinogenic, are not listed under the Manufacture, Storage, and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules 1989. This report highlights a potential regulatory gap, as these rules were issued by the Union Ministry of Environment. The CPCB’s report, dated September 10, 2024, noted that no testing had been conducted on these chemicals and recommended that the tribunal consult agencies overseeing automobile safety standards, which are regulated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This issue gained attention in June when the NGT’s principal bench, led by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, took suo motu notice of a media report indicating the presence of «carcinogenic flame retardants» in cars. The claim, which is being investigated by the US National Toxicology Program, prompted the NGT to request a report from CPCB on the matter.
