China is testing a new stealth fighter jet called J-35 to be deployed on its third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, which is equipped with an electromagnetic catapult unlike the other two fitted with ski-jump take-off ramps, official media reported on Sunday. A new type of warplane was tested earlier this year on the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, state-run Global Times quoted official broadcaster CCTV as saying. It added that the new aircraft could be the long-expected J-35 — China's next-generation carrier-borne stealth fighter jet.

Sanjay Roy on Friday refused to give his consent for a narco analysis test, leading the court to reject the CBI's request to conduct the procedure in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case. The CBI had approached the Sealdah court, seeking permission for the test after arresting Roy in connection with the alleged crime. The agency planned to use the narco test to verify Roy’s statements. “The test would help determine if Roy is telling the truth,” the officer stated. During the procedure, sodium pentothal is administered to induce a hypnotic state, neutralising the subject’s imagination, the officer explained, adding that this method often leads to the accused providing accurate information. A hearing on the CBI’s appeal was expected later in the afternoon. The agency had already conducted a polygraph test on Roy inside Presidency Correctional Home, as part of the investigation.

The central probe agency has appealed to the city-based Sealdah court seeking permission to conduct the test on Roy, he said. «This is primarily to cross-check whether Roy is telling the truth. The narco analysis test will help us to verify his version,» the officer told PTI. During a narco analysis test, a drug sodium pentothal is injected into the body of the subject which takes him to a hypnotic state, and his imagination is neutralised, the CBI officer explained.

Industry executives have informed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) about the extended timelines for acquiring BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification. Indian Navy and the DRDO on Thursday successfully carried out a flight test of a vertical launched short-range surface-to-air missile off the coast of Odisha. The flight test was conducted from a land-based vertical launcher, targeting a high-speed aerial target flying at a low altitude. The missile system successfully tracked and engaged the target, the Defence Ministry said. «The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted the flight test of the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha,» it said.

road contractors, the ministry of road transport and highways have mandated 100% inspection check of quality tests undertaken by contractors in the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) mode of contract by authority engineer for all highway projects as well as for the request for proposal (RFP) document for consultancy services for such projects. This will apply to all road and bridge construction under EPC mode and will kick in for new projects. The EPC mode of contract gives the entire responsibility of design and construction to the contractor and therefore has a longer defect liability period cum maintenance period of 5-10 years. “Considering the current practices in highway projects and greater emphasis on meeting strength and serviceability requirements in respect of components of a highway project over respective design periods, modifications have been made to the model EPC agreement and RFP for consultancy services for authority’s engineer for supervision of EPC projects,” the ministry said in a notification on Thursday.
