Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, & Team India’s epic groove to ‘Rang Barse’ in 2023 still a hit this Holi
To get us into the festive mood, let’s take a delightful trip down memory lane with a throwback from 2023. Cricketer Shubman Gill posted a video that featured him and Team India celebrating Holi aboard a bus ahead of their fourth Test match against Australia. The entire team was caught in the spirit of the occasion, dancing and laughing together, but what really made the video stand out was the soundtrack—a classic Holi anthem, Rang Barse Bhige Chunar Wali, played in the background, bringing even more energy to the celebration. For those wondering which song we’re referring to, it’s the legendary track from the 1981 Bollywood movie Silsila.

‘Gensol liquidity woes may last 90 days; paring BluSmart ties’
Gensol Engineering’s liquidity mismatch is temporary and its linkages with ride-hailing service BluSmart are being wound down, the founder of both companies told ET amid a crisis that has seen the solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company lose 65% of market value in a month. The crash accelerated after rating agencies ICRA and CARE downgraded Gensol Engineering’s credit rating to default. ICRA cited debtservicing documents submitted by Gensol that it said were “apparently falsified.” This will be investigated, said Anmol Jaggi, Gensol Engineering’s chairman and managing director and cofounder of BluSmart. On Thursday, the company announced a Rs 600 crore fundraise to quell investors’ nerves. “We are working on two areas,” Jaggi told ET. “A committee with independent external experts has been formed to investigate the falsification of documents charge. Neither me nor my brother will sit on that committee. We have announced a fundraise of Rs 600 crore through foreign currency convertible bonds and promoter contribution. We expect liquidity challenges for next the 90 days till when credit rating agencies can review their outlook.” The board has approved a stock split in the ratio of 10:1. The promoters will exercise warrants at Rs 56 apiece for shares with a face value of Re 1 each. That amounts to Rs 560 at the existing face value of Rs 10 per share prior to the split. This is a premium of 113% to the current share price of Rs 262.

India, Mauritius ink pact during PM's visit to combat money laundering, corruption
money laundering, corruption, fraud, asset recovery and the financing of illicit activities, the ED said Thursday. The collaboration between Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) of Mauritius will «bolster» financial enforcement capabilities and will also contribute to broader economic and security cooperation between the two nations, the federal probe agency said in a statement. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged in the presence of Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius Navinchandra Ramgoolam. During the discussions leading to the MoU, the ED and the FCC explored the possibilities of «joint operations» to detect, investigate and prosecute cross-border money laundering offences, according to the ED. They also underlined the significance of exchange programmes, experience sharing, training and skill building of the officers of both the organisations, it said. «Discussions were held on how ED can assist FCC by providing technological assistance and sharing of their digital forensic tools and best practices, towards ensuring better data seizing and extraction, and more productive data analysis,» the statement said.

RBI urges lenders to create common pool for green projects
green projects to boost flow of climate-related financing. The central bank has also proposed to set up a dedicated “on tap” cohort on climate change risks and sustainable finance under its Regulatory Sandbox initiative. Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday said that the lack of bankable green projects slowed the adequate flow of credit and a collaborative approach could address this constraint. «Capacity and expertise constraints limit the ability to appraise and thus finance climate change mitigation. It also enhances the risk of funding such projects. Thus, creation of a common pool of such bankable projects will have multi-fold benefits for the entire ecosystem,» Malhotra said at a seminar on climate change risks and finance organised by the central bank in New Delhi. He stressed upon capacity building and improving technical know-how to better appraise risks in financing projects which use green technologies.

Study reveals no country on track to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals by 2030
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, which include ending poverty and achieving gender equality, a study has found. However, when grouped according to geographical, cultural, and socioeconomic factors, different countries appear to be making progress on different goals, according to the findings published in the journal PLOS One. Researchers, including those from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, found that, for instance, African and Asian countries-which have the lowest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — have made low progress on goals such as eradicating poverty, achieving gender equality, and ensuring good health and well-being. However, these countries have made the best progress on climate action and responsible consumption and production, the team said.

India's wholesale inflation likely fell to 2 pc in February from 2.3 pc in January: Report
inflation is expected to decline to 2 per cent in February 2025 from 2.3 per cent in January, primarily due to a drop in oil prices and a seasonal decline in food prices, according to a report by Union Bank of India. The report highlighted that the moderation in WPI inflation is largely driven by a fall in vegetable prices, which is a key component of food inflation. It said «Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is expected to moderate to 2.0 per cent (y/y) in Feb'25, low from 2.3 per cent in previous month, due to cooling in oil prices and seasonal drop in food prices». Within food, vegetable prices are estimated to have dropped by 12 per cent month-on-month. However, edible oil prices saw a slight increase during the month. Additionally, manufactured food prices remained stable as the prices of key inputs like sugar and edible oil showed only a mild rise. The report also added that the fuel index, which tracks price changes in petroleum products, is expected to remain in the negative zone in February. This decline follows a slight increase in the past two months.
