Maintenance law meant to promote equality among spouses, not idleness: Delhi HC
Delhi High Court has held. The high court said qualified wives, having an earning capacity but desirous of remaining idle, should not set up a claim for interim maintenance. «Section 125 (order for maintenance of wives, children and parents) of the CrPC carries the legislative intent to maintain equality among the spouses, provide protection to the wives, children and parents, and not promote idleness» Justice Chandra Dhari Singh said in an order on Wednesday. The court passed the order while dismissing a woman's plea challenging a trial court's order denying her interim maintenance from her estranged husband. The court, however, encouraged the woman to actively look for a job to become self-sufficient as she already got wide exposure and is aware of the worldly affairs unlike other women who are not educated and completely dependent upon their spouses for basic sustenance. The couple got married in December 2019 and left for Singapore. It was alleged by the woman that owing to the cruelties done to her by her husband and his family, she returned to India in February 2021.

'Don't celebrate too early' even if you get a job at top IT companies: Thyocare founder Velumani
Thyrocare founder A Velumani recently highlighted the emotional toll of mass layoffs, reflecting on how many individuals celebrate securing jobs with major brands, only to face unexpected job losses later. His remarks came in response to reports that Amazon is planning to lay off 14,000 employees, a significant reduction in its workforce. Many other tech companies like Meta and Alphabet have announced layoffs this year. Thyrocare founder A Velumani in a post on X said: «Imagine how many might have celebrated for getting a campus placement with such brands. Now how many might feel depressed! It is not 10 or 20. 100 or 200. 1000 or 2000. 14000. Do not celebrate too early. Career or business — It’s Marathon Race.»

Gautam Trivedi on valuations, sectoral bets and India's growth themes
«I am kind of glad that the correction happened. It was a little violent compared to what the market would have expected, but sanity seems to be coming back to some extent,» says Gautam Trivedi, Nepean Capital. Are the markers looking up? It has been a good rebound I would say for the last three days but do not know how long it is going to last. Gautam Trivedi: I still believe that we have seen a huge correction in the market and it was long overdue, people had been forecasting that for 6 to 12 months, and finally when it did happen, it did set up some degree of panic in the market. So, we are in a cyclical slowdown, not a structural one and people are relooking at earnings estimates that mean some downgrades have to come in and there are clearly a few sectors which QSR for example, building materials for example, a lot of these sectors are still struggling with overall sales growth.

We are better off now than in September; by June a bottom should be in place: Ajay Bagga
Ajay Bagga, Market Expert, says it will not be very politically prudential or possible to bring the value chains back into the US. But when it is organised chaos and insanity as a stated policy, it is very difficult then for markets and it turns volatile. So, April 2nd is a very big event risk. That might just end with a whimper and get postponed for another three months, and that means volatility will again get enhanced. Yesterday, the Bank Global Manager survey showed 55% are putting the risk of a global recession because of Trump trade wars as the biggest risk. Bagga says by June, a bottom should be in place. Price wise, 21,800 was probably a bottom price level. Now from here, markets could go down in the very short term on some event risk, but fundamentally, we are better off than we were in September. Let us first address the big market setup. The markets are finally rebounding. Is relief finally on the anvil or there is more concern on the horizon? Have we bottomed out? Ajay Bagga: It is difficult to say that we have bottomed out but if we look at the macro, we are much better off than we were in September.

Vageshwari Properties buys South Mumbai's Laxmi Nivas for Rs 276 crore
Vageshwari Properties, an entity that counts Reliance Industries' board member and executive director Nikhil Meswani's wife Elina as a director, has acquired Laxmi Nivas, an iconic bungalow located on south Mumbai's plush Nepean Sea Road, for over ₹276 crore. The over 120-year-old sea-view property situated diagonally opposite the Russian consulate has a total built up area of nearly 19,892 sq ft spanning across ground plus two upper floors. The sellers had acquired the bungalow spread over around half-an-acre from a Parsi family for about ₹1.2 lakh in 1917. The bungalow, built in 1904, holds significant historical importance, having served as a safe house for prominent freedom fighters during the 1940s Quit India movement. Notable figures such as Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, Achyut Patwardhan and Aruna Asaf Ali sought refuge here. It also functioned as a broadcasting centre for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Azad Hind Radio during this period.

Bigger rout looming? As recession talk grows, how Indian stock market investors can prepare for the worst
recession talk in the United States is growing louder with each passing day and this will be completely driven by President Trump's upending of tariff structures. A recent Reuters poll found that 95% of economists across Canada, the US and Mexico thought the risk of a recession in their respective countries had increased following Trump's tariff rollout. Going by his talk, the President is not going to relent anytime soon. In fact he is doubling down on his rhetoric to impose reciprocal and sectoral tariffs on various countries come April 2. India, this time, will be on the receiving end.
