Why Nifty bulls must buckle up for the next big fall
Federal Reserve cut the interest rates by 25 basis points from 4.75% to 4.5%. This move had served as a key trigger for the market decline of 2.85% in S&P 500. Such a sharp fall in the index sent chills down investors’ spine. Most are wondering whether there is more pain in the offing. Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Let’s see why I am saying this.

View: US government shutdown threat shows Muskis Trump's wrecking ball
US government has just narrowly avoided a shutdown — and the speculation, confusion and concern around tech titan Elon Musk’s power in Washington is rampant. So rampant that President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming press secretary was forced to clarify. “As soon as President Trump released his official stance on the CR, Republicans on Capitol Hill echoed his point of view,” Karoline Leavitt explained about the plan to keep the government funded, known as a continuing resolution.“President Trump is the leader of the Republican Party. Full stop.” This was not entirely convincing. It was not convincing because Musk, who gave Trump’s reelection effort a quarter of a billion dollars, has emerged as an unexpected, unelected and uncontrollable political powerhouse. He derailed the bipartisan plan to keep the government open and put Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s job in jeopardy by posting to his 200 million followers on X, the platform he owns.

Man-made products - buildings, plastics - could be storing 8.4 bn tonnes of carbon, study estimates
carbon is estimated to have been accumulated and stored in long-lasting products from around the world made by humans, such as plastics and buildings, between 1995 and 2019, according to a study. Researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands said this 'fossil carbon' added to the 'technosphere' — the sum of all human-made objects, both in use and discarded — equals around 93 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions from around the world in 2019. They added that the carbon locked up in the 'technosphere' has a huge potential to add to greenhouse gas emissions. Increasing the lifetime of products and recycling rates are two ways to reduce the amount of fossil carbon entering waste streams, the researchers suggested.

What Donald Trump's decision to wade into spending fight tells us about the next 4 years
Donald Trump had little to show for it once lawmakers passed a budget deal in the early hours of Saturday, narrowly averting a pre-Christmas government shutdown. The president-elect successfully pushed House Republicans to jettison some spending, but he failed to achieve his central goal of raising the debt limit. It demonstrated that despite his decisive election victory and frequent promises of retribution, many members of his party are still willing to openly defy him. Trump's decision to inject himself into the budget debate a month before his inauguration also showed that he remains more adept at blowing up deals than making them, and it foreshadowed that his second term will likely be marked by the same infighting, chaos and brinksmanship that characterized his first.

That was Mohammad Ali talking about his epic boxing match against Joe Frazier in 1974, known as the Thrilla in Manila, in which the two great fighters attacked and mauled each other for 14 rounds before Ali came up victorious. Writing for Sports Illustrated, Mark Kram, in his inimitable post-match reportage wrote: “A couple of miles away in the bedroom of a villa, the man who has always demanded answers of Ali, has trailed the champion like a timber wolf, lay in semi-darkness. ‘Man, I hit him with punches that’d bring down the walls of a city,’ said Frazier. ‘Lawdy, Lawdy, he’s a great champion.”

Pushpa 2 star Allu Arjun responds to Revanth Reddy's allegations after theatre stampede incident
Allu Arjun has strongly refuted allegations made against him following a stampede at a theater during the release of his film. In a statement, he described the accusations as “humiliating” and a form of “character assassination.” The controversy erupted after Telangana Congress leader and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticised the actor, accusing him of causing chaos by turning up at the theater. According to Reddy, Allu Arjun's presence at the venue triggered a stampede-like situation, which led to crowding and safety concerns. However, Allu Arjun clarified that his actions were not as dramatic as the allegations suggested. He explained that he did not organize a roadshow or procession, as claimed by Reddy. «I just waved to my fans and went inside the theatre,» the actor said, emphasising that his intentions were never to cause any trouble.
