Amid slowdown, lenders line up offers to turbocharge rural auto sales
festive season including lower interest rates, free insurance and longer repayment tenures. Experts said India's auto industry is saddled with nearly '80,000 crore worth of inventory. Tractor sales, which tend to pick up after good crop yield and farm product sales, have fallen over the last two months, making lenders with growing exposure in rural markets tread with caution. The rural areas account for a sizable chunk of sales for two-wheeler maker Hero Motocorp, and car makers Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra and Tata Motors, the leading sellers in these markets.

Kolkata rape-murder: BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi cites Sircar's letter, says WB's TMC govt being questioned by all
BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Sunday slammed the Trinamool Congress after one of the MPs of the Mamata Banerjee-led party said the West Bengal government's handling of the rape and murder of the doctor at RG Kar hospital was «too little and quite late». TMC MP Jawhar Sircar, in his letter to West Bengal CM Banerjee, said he has decided to quit Rajya Sabha and leave politics altogether, adding he became increasingly «disillusioned» with the state government as it seemed «quite unconcerned» about corruption and «strong-arm tactics» of a section of leaders. Referring to the protests over the rape and murder of the doctor, Sircar said the «spontaneous outpouring of public anger» is against this unchecked overbearing attitude of the «favoured few and the corrupt».

Stranger Things Season 6: Will fans get a new season? Here’s what we know
Stranger Things are eagerly awaiting news about the show's future as production on its fifth season continues in Atlanta. As of now, Stranger Things has not been renewed for a sixth season. The show, which has captured the imaginations of viewers with its blend of supernatural intrigue and 1980s nostalgia, has been confirmed to conclude with its upcoming fifth season. Given the aging cast and the narrative focus on teenage characters, it seems unlikely that the series will extend beyond its planned finale, as mentioned in a report by TV Insider.

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the final stretch of the campaign is introducing herself to voters before her Republican rival, Donald Trump, has a chance to define her. Until her sudden election to the top of the Democratic ticket this summer, Harris was still a somewhat unknown figure in national politics, driven in part by her aversion to opening up and embracing the spotlight. And since she's become the nominee, Republicans have criticised Harris for not doing many interviews or giving enough specifics on her policy plans. But the vice president is sharing personal details about her childhood, cooking and food to show her more private side.

Like-minded nations collaborating with India to make it a chip manufacturing hub: Krishnan
semiconductor manufacturing destination, a top Electronics and IT ministry official said on Sunday. In an interview with PTI, Ministry of Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said pilot facilities of US storage semiconductor maker Micron and Tata Electronics have already rolled out chips, and their main plants in Gujarat will begin to produce made-in-India chips from the later part of 2025. «Globally, and thanks to geopolitical circumstances, there is an increasing realisation that semiconductors are a very important and strategic commodity, and therefore, we need substantial resilience in the production of semiconductors,» Krishnan said. The importance of resilience in semiconductors was underlined during the pandemic when many industries — including the auto industries, medical devices industries and other electronics, and consumer electronics industries — suffered because they did not have access to chips, which led to a belief that there should be greater diversification, especially for sourcing of semiconductors, he added.

Kamala Harris, Trump effectively tied in final stretch of 2024 race, NYT/Siena poll shows
Trump and his Democratic rival Vice President Kamala Harris are effectively tied heading into the final weeks of the election, according to a national poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College. Trump is up one percentage point, 48%-47%, over Harris, according to the survey released on Sunday, a difference that is well within the survey's three-point margin of error, meaning a win for either candidate in the Nov. 5 election is well within reach. While the Trump campaign endured a relatively rocky stretch in the weeks after Democratic President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July, the most recent polling indicates the core of his support base is not going anywhere.

Smarter Siri, customized emojis: How Apple's upcoming iPhone will break new ground with shift into AI
recent slump in sales of Apple's marquee product. The iPhone 16 is generating a bigger buzz because it is the first model to be tailored specifically for AI, a technology that is expected to trigger the biggest revolution in the industry since Jobs thrust Apple into the smartphone market 17 years ago.The advances included in the iPhone 16 could set up Apple to be “the gatekeeper of the consumer AI revolution," Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives wrote in a research note.Apple's pivot began three months ago with a preview of its new approach during a developers conference, helping to build anticipation for Monday's showcase.Since that June conference, competitors such as Samsung and Google have made even more strides in AI. Google even took the unusual step of introducing its latest Pixel phones packed with their own AI magic last month instead of hewing to its traditional October timetable in an effort to upstage Apple's release of the iPhone 16.In an attempt to set itself apart from the early leaders in AI, the technology being baked into the iPhone 16 is being promoted as “Apple Intelligence." Even so, Apple Intelligence is similar to the generically named AI already available on Google's Pixel 9 and the Samsung Galaxy S24 released in January. Most of Apple's AI tasks will be performed on the iPhone itself instead of remote data centers — a distinction that requires a special processor within the forthcoming models and the high-end iPhone 15s that came out a year ago. That's why investors anticipate hot demand for the iPhone 16, spurring a surge in sales that has caused Apple's stock price to climb by 13% since Apple previewed its AI strategy in June.

Anti-Naxal ops: CRPF moves in over 4,000 troops in Chhattisgarh for decisive action
CRPF is moving in four battalions comprising more than 4,000 personnel in the worst Naxal-violence affected areas of Bastar in Chhattisgarh as part of a strategy to launch a «decisive battle» to match the Union government's latest resolve of ending the Maoist problem by March 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while declaring this deadline in the Chhattisgarh capital of Raipur last month, emphasised that a «strong and ruthless» plan of action was required to rid the country of Left Wing Extremism (LWE) — once termed the country's biggest internal security threat. Official sources said the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) — the lead internal security and anti-Naxal operations force in the country — withdrew three battalions from Jharkhand and one from Bihar for deployment in the Bastar region, about 450-500 kilometres south of Raipur. It was felt that the Naxal violence situation in these two states had improved and incidents were negligible. Hence, these battalions can be better utilised in Chhattisgarh, where the anti-Naxal operations are now concentrated, they said.
