Iran to use the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missile system, two European intelligence sources told Reuters, adding that they expected the imminent delivery of hundreds of the satellite-guided weapons to Russia for its war in Ukraine. Russian defence ministry representatives are believed to have signed a contract on Dec. 13 in Tehran with Iranian officials for the Fath-360 and another ballistic missile system built by Iran's government-owned Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) called the Ababil, said the two intelligence officials, who requested anonymity in order to discuss sensitive matters. South Korea could rupture its U.S. alliance and shock financial markets if it started building nuclear weapons, Defence Minister Shin Won-sik told Reuters, dismissing renewed domestic calls for the country's own arsenal to deter North Korea. As the neighbouring North rapidly expands nuclear and missile capabilities, more South Korean officials and members of President Yoon Suk Yeol's conservative ruling party have called in recent months for developing nuclear weapons. The prospect of another term for former U.S. President Donald Trump, who complained about the cost of the U.S. military presence in South Korea and launched unprecedented talks with the North, has further fuelled the debate.

Provident Booking Align Sustainability Universities War Stockdale paradox
Stockdale Paradox'. This paradigm introduced by Jim Collins in his book 'Good to Great', is named after Admiral James Stockdale, a highly decorated US military officer who survived over seven years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. Stockdale's unique approach to enduring brutal captivity, combined unwavering faith that he would eventually be freed with a stark acceptance of his harsh reality. This duality forms the essence of the paradox: one must retain faith in eventual success while confronting the brutal facts of one's current situation. Various spiritual traditions emphasise the importance of faith, whether in a higher power, the universe's inherent goodness or life's ultimate purpose. The paradox aligns with these traditions by encouraging unwavering faith that transcends immediate suffering. This faith provides spiritual resilience, much like how Stockdale's belief in his eventual release sustained him.

Action Mobile economy students War stage Bangladesh unrest: A look at other student protests that altered history's course
Sheikh Hasina government. Throughout modern history, students have frequently played a pivotal role in regime changes or significant policy shifts. This trend is evident in numerous landmark protests across the globe, illustrating the power and influence of student movements. In the United States during the 1960s and early 1970s, student-led protests against the Vietnam War became iconic. Campuses across America saw teach-ins, sit-ins, and shutdowns to oppose the country's involvement in the war. These actions targeted both the Johnson and Nixon administrations, as well as companies like Dow Chemicals with ties to the conflict. Thousands of students burning their drafts ultimately turned public sentiment against the war, leading to the withdrawal of American troops by 1973. In South Africa, the Soweto Uprising of June 1976 showcased students' resistance against unequal education under Apartheid. Thousands marched in protest, only to be met with armed police, which triggered widespread anti-Apartheid protests and international condemnation of the regime. These demonstrations are credited with setting the stage for the eventual end of Apartheid.

Waves Reuters security War US personnel wounded in attack against base in Iraq, officials say
U.S. personnel were injured in an attack against a military base in Iraq on Monday, U.S. officials told Reuters, as the Middle East braced for a possible new wave of attacks by Iran and its allies following last week's killing of senior members of militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Two Katyusha rockets were fired at al Asad airbase in western Iraq, two Iraqi security sources said. One Iraqi security source said the rockets fell inside the base. It was unclear whether the attack was linked to threats by Iran to retaliate over the killings. On Wednesday, Iran said the U.S. bears responsibility in the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran because of its support for Israel.
