Israel war cabinet to discuss new push for Gaza hostage deal
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to convene his war cabinet Sunday to discuss the latest efforts towards a Gaza truce and hostage release deal, a senior official told AFP. The news came despite more deadly Gaza fighting and a rocket barrage Hamas aimed at Tel Aviv that sent people scrambling for bomb shelters as air defences intercepted projectiles streaking across the sky. US President Joe Biden has pushed for renewed international efforts to halt the Gaza war, and CIA chief Bill Burns on Friday met Mossad director David Barnea and Qatar's prime minister in Paris.

NATO’s boss wants to free Ukraine to strike hard inside Russia
Kharkiv, close to the border, to deny Ukraine the possibility of using these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory makes it very hard for them to defend themselves." It has long been a source of frustration for Ukrainians that if they want to go after targets on Russian soil they must depend on home-produced drones, which have only limited utility. Their anger has been boiling over since May 10th, when the Russians began a big offensive across the border only 20 miles (32km) from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-biggest city. It had been subject to pulverising aerial bombardment for several months before.

‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’: 3 hidden money lessons you can learn from this film
Mad Max in the original movie (1979), was a cop-turned-vigilante riding his modified Kawa Z1000 bike across the wasteland fighting criminals, looking for food and ‘guzzolene’? The success of that film brought even more successful sequels: Mad Max 2, Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome (where you fell in love with Tina Turner again!), and Mad Max Fury Road.

Why reforming the WTO dispute settlement mechanism is imperative
WTO at Abu Dhabi renewed the commitment to have a full and well-functioning dispute settlement mechanism (DSM) by 2024, it is yet to be seen if this happens as proposed. A rules-based multilateral trading system like the WTO can work effectively only when there is a robust mechanism in place to resolve disputes that arise among member nations. The DSM has been a key pillar of WTO as it provides a legal framework for resolving trade disputes that arise between member nations of the WTO, thereby lending certainty and predictability to the trading system.

Samir Arora's 'zero LTCG tax' proposal sparks war of words with Rajeev Mantri; latter calls it 'laughable idea'
Also Read: ‘Best thing to create wealth for public’: Helios Capital's Samir Arora bats for zero LTCG tax; here's whyBetter to attract real FDI money (which only takes out dividends of two per cent per annum and reinvests the balance) or FII (which broadly remains invested over time and even redemptions are not bunched too much on general), suggested Arora. He added that attracting FII money requires the least amount of effort or policy changes, as it just requires the relaxation of capital gains tax. That will also help domestic investors, attract risk-taking money, allow the government to raise good money from PSU divestments, and collect money from higher STT collections. To this proposal, Mantri responded, ‘’This is a narrow and self-serving approach.

‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ review: The rocky road to revenge
Furiosa would have been… had Fury Road not existed. George Miller’s 2015 film remade the action genre from the inside out, taking it back to its basics, then supercharging it. Furiosa has its share of bone-rattling, cardiac-inducing wonders, but these wonders are largely familiar, burned into our brains through re-watchings of Fury Road.

Top Russian military officials are being arrested. Why is it happening?
defense minister. Then the head of the ministry's personnel directorate was hauled into court. This week, two more senior military officials were detained. All face charges of corruption, which they have denied. The arrests began after President Vladimir Putin began his fifth term and shuffled his ally, longtime Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, into a new post. It immediately raised questions about whether Putin was reasserting control over the Defense Ministry amid the war in Ukraine, whether a turf battle had broken out between the military and the security services, or whether some other scenario was playing out behind the Kremlin's walls.

A new trade war offers no easy way back for old global order
Then-President Donald Trump fired the first shots with tariffs on China seven years ago, and then Joe Biden ushered America into the new industrial policy age. Stage three, punctuated by Biden’s latest round of duties on Chinese imports, builds on the first two: using tariffs to defend US interests, with subsidies now at the core of policy and without fear of retaliation. The $31 trillion arena of international commerce has withstood a series of shocks in recent years, including the US-China trade war. This time, the linchpin is the European Union — caught between preserving its self-styled role as defender of multilateral rules and fearing the loss of millions of jobs and tens of billions in investment while the US and China wield market-distorting subsidies and tariffs.

Asian stocks fall, dollar rises as rate cut wagers waver
Asian stocks fell on Friday, while the dollar advanced as strong U.S. economic data bolstered the prospect of interest rates staying higher for longer and the Federal Reserve taking its time in cutting rates, keeping investors away from risky assets. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.5% and was on course for a 1% weekly decline, snapping its four-week winning streak. Japan's Nikkei fell 1.45%.

South Korea imposes sanctions on North Koreans, two Russian vessels
South Korea on Friday imposed sanctions on seven North Korean individuals and two Russian vessels over weapons trade and other activities between Pyongyang and Moscow deemed in breach of U.N. Security Council resolutions, Seoul's foreign ministry said. The Russian vessels had been carrying a large quantity of containers between Russia and North Korea transporting military supplies in a clear violation of the United Nations Security Council resolutions, the ministry said in a statement. The United States and South Korea have accused North Korea of transferring weapons to Russia for use in its war in Ukraine. Both Moscow and Pyongyang have denied the accusations, but vowed last year to deepen military relations.

China says drills around Taiwan test 'seizure of power' capability
Beijing on Friday said ongoing drills encircling Taiwan were testing the military's ability to seize power over the self-ruled island, days after its new president was sworn in. China's military kicked off the war games Thursday morning, surrounding Taiwan with naval vessels and military aircraft, while vowing the blood of "independence forces" on the island would flow. The exercises — codenamed «Joint Sword-2024A» — come after Lai Ching-te took office as Taiwan's new president this week and made an inauguration speech that China denounced as a «confession of independence».
