Federal Bank is in the process of exploring both internal and external candidates for the position of managing director and chief executive officer for the bank as the term for current head Shyam Srinivasan would come to an end on September 22. The bank is in the process of launching a search since the Reserve Bank of India advised it to submit new names of new candidates responding to the bank's request for a one year extension for Srinivasan. markets COST UPS ETF Strategy wellness performer NOT Not only expense ratio, liquidity and impact cost very important factors for ETFs: Arun Sundaresan
Arun Sundaresan, Head-ETF, Nippon Life India Asset Management, says “generally, most of these ETFs anyway tend to be low on expense and they may be comparable but the moot point here is that you should not be guided only by the expense ratio. If the liquidity is poor and if the impact cost is very high, that may defeat the entire purpose of low-cost investing through ETFs.” ETFs are seeing substantial numbers as far as the performance across the board are concerned, especially the volumes. I really want to understand the trigger behind these significant volume numbers. Arun Sundaresan: Obviously ETFs and index funds, passive funds as they are called, have been picking up significant traction over a period of time in the mutual fund industry. Already the total assets under management in these types of funds is around Rs 8 lakh crore. Particularly talking about ETFs, the exchange traded funds they have been around for quite some time now. The topic for today's discussion, what we wanted to talk to you about is the liquidity in an ETF, how critical that is when it comes to your investment.

markets UPS Election wellness trends country rights Regular corrections are part of the game; smart money waiting for right entry point in India: Santosh Rao
Santosh Rao, Partner, Head of Research, Manhattan Venture Partners, says “the world has realised that being China-centric is not really good. It is not a good practice, not a good strategy. So they are diversifying out of China. Even if China was not slowing down, just for geopolitical tensions and all that, people have realised that China is not the place to rely on in the long run. India is going to be the biggest beneficiary of that coming out. Investments are going to flow out of China. And that is a huge thing that is playing out in the markets.” Are you surprised the way the entire global narrative has changed? We are talking about rate cuts this year? Santosh Rao: Yes. I think a lot depends on two or three things that are going to determine the US market. Of course, the disparity between what the market is expecting and what the Fed will do. Originally five or six cuts were priced into the market, and that was the enthusiasm coming into the year. But I think now after all the Fed governors have come out and said it clearly, and also seeing the CPI data, the last CPI data that came out the Fed is not going to do five or six cuts. It is probably going to do two, at best three if inflation comes down fast.

markets Citi Target wellness country rights Growth potential of Raymond’s Thane project is Rs 25,000 crore over several years: Group CFO
Amit Agarwal, Group CFO, Raymond, says “the growth potential of Thane is Rs 25,000 crore over several years and Rs 5000 crore we have already signed. So, we are in a decent spot in order to take this business really-really forward. The demerger is on so hopefully by mid-May, we should be able to announce that de-merger. The SEBI approval is in place, now the NCLT and the other process is on. So, to that extent, you will have separate companies for real estate as well as for the lifestyle. Our target is that Thane should be in the range of 50 to 60% of the revenue mix over the next three, four years, and 40% to 45% should come out of Thane.” How was Diwali and Christmas? Any reasons for your shareholders to get worried? Amit Agarwal: No. I think Diwali was great. People had a really good time. There has been a sort of hiatus of almost seven-eight months when people were not into so much of shopping in the first half and going up to August-September because of that extra month of Malmas (inauspicious period) and as soon as that Malmas got over, people started to come back and saw a great shopping trend there.

markets UPS Digital wellness Universities Schools Devang Mehta on what themes work best for him in pharma space
Devang Mehta, Director — Equity Advisory, Spark Private Wealth, says “there are a couple of themes in the pharma space where we have been bullish through the last 6-9 months. These have been MNC pharma companies like Abbot India. These companies probably command a huge market share. These companies are sort of cash cows and work with a negative working capital cycle. These companies never get into fracas with USFDA. Most of these companies come up with not only a great set of earnings but also the margins are very impressive. The other stream of business which we like is the CRAM space where something like a Syngine operates.” What are your thoughts on Polycab or if you are unable to talk about exactly on Polycab, some of these large wires and cable companies who in the last 5-7 years, have shown earnings growth and have made a place for themselves in this sector? Devang Mehta: We have been liking the space so, particularly would not like to name any stock as such. But with the plethora of businesses in the wire and cable space, these companies have developed themselves from a normal cable and wire company which was a commoditized type of business, to branded businesses with pricing power. Some of these brands are very well-known in the market for Havells, for Polycab, for RR Kabel.

markets UPS MET Align wellness stars Rupee can be winner after 7 years only if this one condition is met
India may only result in mild gains for the rupee as the nation’s central bank will likely continue to grip the currency tightly. On its own, the stars are aligned for the rupee — prospects of large bond and stocks inflows on the back of JPMorgan Chase & Co’s inclusion of Indian debt in its emerging market index as well as a global risk-on sentiment. Yet analysts are reluctant to call a sizeably stronger rupee, which has traded within a very narrow range over the last year despite large inflows into India’s equity and debt markets. While the central bank seems to have eased a bit on its intervention lately — the rupee has turned into Asia’s top performer so far this month — limiting the swings in the currency may continue to be a prime focus. “The Reserve Bank of India will let the rupee appreciate only gradually,” said Dhiraj Nim, economist and forex strategist at Australia & New Zealand Banking Group.
