IndiGo flight from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh to Hyderabad in Telangana was diverted on Sunday to Nagpur following a bomb threat. In a statement, IndiGo said its flight 6E-7308, scheduled from Jabalpur to Hyderabad, got diverted to Nagpur International Airport on Sunday morning due to a bomb threat message on board the aircraft. «Upon landing, all passengers were disembarked, and mandatory security checks were promptly initiated. Passengers were provided with assistance and refreshments,» the statement added.

National Conference will prioritise the lifting of AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir and put an end to the «unjust harassment faced by Kashmiri youth» if it is voted to power, party vice-president Omar Abdullah said on Saturday. Abdullah had pitched for the revocation of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in 2012 when he was chief minister of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state. He had even announced that AFSPA would be revoked during his tenure but the proposal faced strong opposition from the Army. «The party (National Conference) reiterates its unwavering dedication to fulfilling the promises outlined in our manifesto. Once in power, the National Conference-led government will prioritise the lifting of AFSPA, putting an end to the unjust harassment faced by our youth,» Abdullah said as he welcomed prominent political activists into the party.

India is likely to see above-average rainfall this month and a delayed withdrawal of monsoon showers, the weather office said, raising concern that it may hit output of kharif crops such as pulses, oilseeds, and fruits and vegetables. Rainfall is likely to be more than 109% of a 50-year average, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director-general of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday. Mizoram arms and explosives seizure case connected with Myanmar-based insurgent groups. In a statement NIA stated all 10 accused have been charged with active involvement in the arms, ammunition and explosives trafficking network operating on the Indo-Myanmar border. They have been charge-sheeted under various sections of IPC, Arms Act and Explosive Substance Act. The chargesheet, filed before the NIA Special Court, Aizawl, Mizoram, identified the accused as Lalrintluanga, Laldinpuia, Zoremsanga, Lalbiaktluanga, Lalrinsanga, Zothanmawia, Henry Siangnuna, J Rohlupuia, Laldinsanga & David Lalramsanga, who included some Myanmar-based absconders. The case was registered in May 2022 following the seizure of a large quantity of explosives, firearms and ammunition from two vehicles at the outskirts of Kelsih Village, under Kulikawn PS, Aizawl district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said the ambit of the Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme will be expanded to cover 2.5 crore women even as the state government has transferred money into the bank accounts of 1.7 crore beneficiaries so far. The chief minister launched the second phase of the scheme at Reshimbagh ground here in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare. «We were not born with a golden spoon. We belong to the family of farmers. Having experienced poverty, we understood why a scheme like this was necessary. We know the value of Rs 1,500,» Shinde said. The Ladki Bahin Scheme provides monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 to married, divorced, and destitute women in the 21-60 age group with a Rs 2.5 lakh annual family income ceiling.

Chhattisgarh's Dantewada administration has imposed a penalty of Rs 1,620.5 crore on the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) for alleged violations of mining laws in the district. NMDC, a central public sector unit, has called this move «completely inappropriate,» claiming that the penalty was levied «solely and blindly without considering the facts and circumstances in the case.» The NMDC operates mining activities in the Bailadila hills, encompassing the Kirandul village under the Bacheli tehsil of Dantewada. Dantewada collector Mayank Chaturvedi directed the NMDC to deposit the penalty within 15 days, as per a letter dated August 29, Press Trust of India reported. The collector stated that the NMDC's clarifications in response to the show cause notices issued by the district administration were unsatisfactory. According to the letter, the NMDC violated Chhattisgarh mining excavation, transportation and storage rules. NMDC has contested this penalty. The NMDC, in a statement, claimed the Dantewada collector proposed to levy penalty and compensation to the tune of Rs 1,620.5 crore for alleged transport of iron ore without a railway transit pass (RTP), and thereby alleging contravention of the various provisions of different mining laws.

Cambodia is eyeing to increase Indian tourists' footfalls by 3-4 times in the current year as a robust growth in India's tourism sector presents huge potential for the Southeast Asian nation, a Cambodian tourism ministry official said. «We have launched Cambodia-India Tourism year for the first time this year to tap the Indian market which has potential, as the country's tourism is booming. We are witnessing a positive momentum and expect that there will be a lot more tourists from India. We expect to increase, maybe, 3-4 times in terms of the number at the moment that we have,» Cambodia's Minister of Tourism Hul Seila told PTI over phone on the sidelines of Business, Leisure, Travel and MICE Tourism Exhibition 2024 (BLTM). In 2023, Cambodia hosted 68,836 India travellers. The figure was over 91 per cent of the pre-Covid (2019) levels, he said. In 2019 Cambodia received 75,286 visitors from India. This year, in the first six months (January-June 2024) the number of tourists coming from India to Cambodia was around 32,000-33,000, around 17 per cent more compared to the figure of the same time a year ago, he said.

Congress was ready to contest on its own all 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and the alliance with the National Conference was forged under a «national compulsion», Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra said on Saturday. The alliance was forged for the stability and betterment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he added. The National Conference and the Congress Monday have finalised a seat-share formula, with the parties set to contest 51 and 32 seats, respectively. «The Congress will become stronger in the future. We had some alliance compulsions, the coalition was forged under a national mood, national compulsion. If those parameters of the alliance were not followed, then the Congress was ready to contest all 90 seats,» Karra said.
