Forex reserves were up by $7.02 billion to touch an all-time high of $681 billion as of August 23, as per data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Friday. Earlier, reserves expanded by $4.54 billion to $674.66 billion for the week ending on August 16. Previously, Forex reserves had touched an all time high of $675 billion as of August 2, but had fallen $4.8 billion on August 9.

India's eight core sectors' output growth slowed down to 6.1 per cent in July on annual basis as against 8.5 per cent in same month last year, showed government data on Friday. The production of Steel, Electricity, Coal, Refinery Products, Cement, and Fertilizers recorded positive growth in July 2024. The final growth rate of Index of Eight Core Industries for April 2024 stood at 6.9 per cent. The cumulative growth rate of ICI during April to July, 2024-25 stood at 6.1 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The bill in question, which aims to reform the registration process of Waqf properties through a centralised portal, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8. India's Bharat Petroleum Corp plans to increase its integrated refining and petrochemical capacities within the next five to seven years to meet growing energy demand, Chairman G. Krishnakumar told shareholders. India's annual consumption of refined fuels and petrochemicals is expected to rise steadily by 4-5% and 7-8% in the 'foreseeable future', he said. «This presents a strategic opportunity to expand refining capacity alongside the development of integrated petrochemical complexes,» Krishnakumar said.

Ramdas Soren, a legislator of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was sworn in as a minister in the Jharkhand government on Friday, replacing former Chief Minister Champai Soren in the state cabinet. This transition took place when Champai Soren resigned from his positions earlier in the week. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ramdas Soren at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi. Air India-Vistara merger, Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Friday said that it has received approval from the Government of India for foreign direct investment (FDI) in a deal with the Tatas, the airline said in an exchange filing. Singapore's flagship carrier, which has a 49 per cent stake in Vistara, had announced the plan to merge the Indian airline and Tata-owned Air India in November 2022. Tatas own 51 per cent in Vistara. Upon completion of the merger, SIA is expected to hold approximately 25.1 per cent of the enlarged Air India.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cautioned the public against unscrupulous elements that use various methods to defraud people by using the name of the central bank in some capacity. RBI said these fraudsters use enticing tactics like fake letterheads and email addresses of RBI, impersonating as employees of RBI or intimidating tactics via calls, SMS or emails impersonating as RBI officials threatening to freeze/block/deactivate bank accounts of recipients and convince/coerce them to share certain personal details, account/login details/ card information, PIN, OTP, etc. or install some unauthorised/ unverified application using a link provided in the communication.

Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh's Jewar are in full swing with work being done in partnership with Air India SATS, NIA Chief Executive Officer Christoph Schnellmann said on Thursday and noted there will be cargo capacity for well over one lakh tonnes of cargo when the facility opens. Schnellmann told that work on the passenger terminal is also in full swing. «The development works on the cargo terminal and multimodal cargo hub are in full swing as well. We're working in partnership with Air India SATS who have designed the facility, who are constructing the facility and who will operate the facility. There will be a capacity for well over 1 lakh tonnes of cargo when the facility opens and it's designed in a modular fashion to grow with the demand. We plan to submit our application for the aerodrome license this year,» he said.

Tencent Cloud Europe B.V. sold shares of PB Fintech worth Rs 1,668.15 crore in a block deal on BSE on Thursday. The entity sold 97 lakh shares at Rs 1,719.75 apiece. As of June 30, Tencent Cloud Europe B.V. held a 4.26% stake in the company. Axis Mutual Fund, Mirae Asset MF, Marshall Wace Investment Strategies Eureka Fund, SBI MF and Goldman Sachs (Singapore) PTE-ODI were among some of the buyers.
