Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the State Bank of India (SBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday to enhance digital payment services for users of the eMigrate portal. The agreement was signed by Joint Secretary OE and PGE (Overseas Employment and Protector General of Emigrants) Bramha Kumar, on behalf of the Ministry, and Neelesh Dwivedi, General Manager (NW-I) from SBI, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in Delhi. This MoU will become operational following the successful integration of SBI's payment gateway, SBIePay, with the eMigrate portal.

BJP president J P Nadda on Saturday formed a four-member committee to look into the alleged political violence in West Bengal, as the party accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of remaining a mute spectator. Naxalites and one security personnel were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Saturday, according to a police official. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that construction of 1,000-Mw Solar Power Project in Karbi Anglong will begin shortly. Sarma on Friday laid the foundation stone for a 25-Mw capacity solar power generation project at the premises of the Namrup Thermal Power Station in Dibrugarh district. A joint venture collaboration between the Assam Power Generation Corporation and Oil India Limited, the project will be spread across 108 acres of land and is likely to cost Rs. 115 crores in project cost. The solar project, approved by the State Cabinet on August 19, 2022, is projected to produce 50 million units of electricity every year and its construction is expected to be completed by July 2025.

toddler who fell into a 45-50 feet deep borewell in Surgapara village in Gujarat's Amreli and pulled out after a 15-hour-long long operation on Saturday morning, has been declared dead by doctors. «The child was pulled out from the borewell at 5:10 am and taken to the Amreli Civil Hospital where she was declared brought dead,» Fire Officer HC Gadhvi said today. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Amreli fire team and 108 ambulance service were jointly engaged in operations to rescue the girl.

ATM manufacturer AGS Transact Technologies is aiming to deploy more than 3,000 ATMs in the current fiscal year. After the industry stagnated during the Covid period, banks have once again started adding branches which is seen to give a fillip to the industry. The company recently won two orders from State Bank of India to deploy more than 4,000 ATMs over a period of 7 years. «If I consider the SBI contract which we will start deploying in the second half of the fiscal year, we also have a few other banks in the pipeline. So in all we will deploy 3,000 ATMs plus cash recycler machines (CRM),» said Ravi Goyal, chairman, AGS Transact.

The boy is currently lodged at an observation home in Pune. The petitioner, in its habeas corpus plea, stated that she was compelled to file the petition against the respondents (Pune Police) for their «abuse of process and blatant disregard» for the rule of law, further compounded by the «arbitrary and illegal detention» and its continuation under a remand order passed by the Juvenile Justice Board, Pune, in «complete violation» of the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, thereby keeping the nephew of the petitioner, the Child In Conflict with Law (CCL), in «illegal detention.»

Bharti Airtel has prepaid ₹7,904 crore to the telecom department, clearing the remaining part of the payment relating to spectrum bought in 2012 and 2015 auctions, a move which will lead to interest cost savings. This comes after India's second largest telecom operator prepaid ₹8,325 crore in January 2024, clearing a sizable chunk of the deferred liabilities. This will help Airtel to save interest costs annually and boost cash flows, as its nationwide 5G rollout nears completion, said analysts.
