Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Saturday reported its highest-ever annual profit at Rs 1,767 crore for 2023-24. Its Managing Director and CEO Baldev Prakash said the net profit surged 48% compared to the previous fiscal. «Beating its own highest-ever record of profits achieved only last year, the net profit surged in fiscal 2023-24 by 48 per cent to achieve its record profit figure of Rs 1,767 crore,» Prakash told PTI after the bank's annual results for FY 2023-24 were released bank here.

Bangalore Watch Company has announced it has successfully tested an Apogee wristwatch in Space in pursuit of what it called producing world-class watches that tell stories from modern India. The prototype watch completed a Stratospheric flight by travelling 114,000 feet (35 kilometers) into the Earth’s atmosphere and returned safely to Earth in full working condition, the company said in a press release. “We launched the Apogee collection in 2021 as a celebration of the Indian space program. Since then, the Apogee has taken the moniker of ‘the Indian space watch’. We didn’t want to stop at creating watches that were merely inspired by Space. We wanted to see if we could build them to be qualified and tested for space”, said Mercy Amalraj, co-founder of Bangalore Watch Company.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur would file his nomination from Hamirpur constituency on May 13 for the last phase of Lok Sabha elections, BJP state Chief Rajiv Bindal on Saturday. Addressing the media in Shimla, Bindal said that actor Kangana Ranaut would file her nomination on May 14 from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency and former BJP state president Suresh Kashyap would submit his papers from Shimla constituency on May 13. The BJP Lok Sabha candidate from the Kangra seat Rajeev Bhardwaj would file his nomination on May 10. BJP candidate Sudhir Sharma, who was disqualified from Congress for defying the party whip, will also be filing his nomination from Dharamshala on May 14 for the by-elections while Ravi Thakur will submit his papers from Lahaul and Spiti assembly seat on May 9. The date for the filing of the nomination of Chetanya Sharma for Gagret is yet to be finalised, he added. The six Congress MLAs Rajinder Rana (Sujanpur), Sudhir Sharma (Dharamshala), Ravi Thakur (Lahaul and Spiti), Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (Barsar), Chetanya Sharma (Gagret) and Devinder Kumar Bhutto (Kutlehar) were disqualified for defying a party whip to be present in Vidhan Sabha and vote in favour of the government during the cut motions and budget.

Congress candidate Deepender Singh Hooda and BJP nominee Ashok Tanwar on Saturday filed their nomination papers from the Rohtak and Sirsa seats respectively for the Lok Sabha elections. Polling for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will take place on May 25. Hooda was accompanied by his father and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan and party MLA BB Batra while filing the nomination papers at Rohtak. Insolvency Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) declared 2023-24 as a landmark year, with the National Company Law Tribunal achieving a significant 43 per cent increase in resolutions, jumping from 189 cases last year to 270 this year. The IBBI is expected to submit a report to the government over the next 2-3 months for including «mediation» in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), which is currently under discussion and scrutiny. The regulator is also working on prepackaged insolvency for large corporate cases, which is only allowed in MSME cases as of now. For the first time in a year, the number of outputs has increased from the number of inputs, reducing the pendency across India, said Sudhaker Shukla, an IBBI whole-time member, while addressing the CII organised 7th Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code conclave.

Zakia Wardak has announced her decision to step down from her role at the Consulate and Embassy of Afghanistan in India. Wardak said that she has faced numerous «personal attacks and defamation» over the past year. The development comes after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted her over alleged attempts to smuggle gold from India to Dubai. Avenue Supermarts, which runs the popular DMart chain of retail stores, on Saturday, announced that its consolidated profit for the quarter ended March 2024 has jumped 22.4% to Rs 563 crore as against Rs 460 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The company's revenue jumped 20% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs Rs 12,727 crore. The retailer's EBITDA rose 22.3% YoY to Rs 943 crore while its operating profit margin also growth of 13 bps at 7.41%.

Tata Group's Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company, Tata Projects, has said that it has turned profitable. Speaking over the company result announcement, Vinayak Pai, MD & CEO at Tata Projects said the company's strategic realignment, organisational transformation and improved focus on operational efficiencies have started yielding results. «I feel proud to announce that we have returned to profitability, and we are moving forward on our path to deliver predictable and sustainable projects through innovation and technology,» he said. Tata Projects reported a profit after tax of Rs 120.57 crore for the quarter ended March 31. The company had posted a loss of Rs 366.42 crore in the year-ago period. The company's revenue from operations increased to Rs 5,412.80 crore during the March quarter, over Rs 5,015.21 crore in the year-ago period, the statement said.

Kotak Mahindra Bank on Saturday reported 18.22% year-on-year (YoY) increase in its standalone profit for the quarter ended March 2024 to Rs 4,133.30 crore while its net interest income (NII) in Q4 rose 13% YoY to Rs 6,909 crore. The PAT figure was higher than ET Now poll estimates of Rs 3,406 crore. Its net interest margin (NIM) during the quarter rose to 5.28% vs 5.22% in Q3 of FY24.

Indian Air Force (IAF) on Friday received delivery of the second of the 56 C295 aircraft, which are set to replace its ageing Avro-748 fleet, the officials said. In September 2021, India formalised the acquisition of 56 Airbus C295 aircraft to replace the legacy Avro fleet of the IAF at a cost of Rs 21,935 crore. In a statement, Airbus Defence and Space said that of the total 56 aircraft ordered by the Indian customer, 16 will be produced by Airbus in Seville, Spain.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has raised the maximum residue limit (MRL) for a pesticide in herbs and spices to 0.1mg/kg from the earlier 0.01mg/kg. "...if the MRLs are not specified by the codex, then the MRL of 0.1 mg shall apply for spices and culinary herbs and spices," the regulator said in an order issued on April 8. It cited «various representations» for this upward revision in MRL.
