Prajwal had raped 400 women and it is shameful that Modi campaigned for him in Hassan,» Gandhi claimed at a rally in Raichur.

Essel Group is aiming to settle outstanding debt owed to JC Flowers Asset Reconstruction by June, having already paid the first tranche, around ₹300 crore of the estimated ₹1,500 crore that he owes the company, industry sources aware of the development told ET. Essel Group is in the process of paying the second tranche of the debt later this month. «As the payments are made, JC Flowers will start releasing assets, which include Dish TV, Zee Learn and some real estate assets,» one of the persons said on the condition of anonymity. A second source said there has been a lot of positive movement in the last month between the two parties. «The first tranche of ₹300 crore was paid a few months ago. The second tranche could be paid in the coming days. The eventual goal is to clear the entire outstanding amount by June,» the executive said.

Ujjwal Nikam has resigned as a special public prosecutor in all the cases where he was representing the state, an official communication of the Maharashtra government has said. The BJP announced his name as candidate from the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency four days ago. Nikam «resigned» from the 29 cases across the state, including eight in Mumbai, in which he had been appointed as special prosecutor, and the resignation has been accepted, said an order of the Law and Judiciary department, issued earlier this week. Among others, he was handling the case against alleged LeT operative Sayyed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal in connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Kurar quadruple killings of 2011, and murder of actor Laila Khan and her family.

India on Thursday rejected fresh comments by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and said the remarks once again illustrated the political space given in Canada to separatism, extremism, and violence. Trudeau addressed a Khalsa Day event in Toronto on Sunday that was attended by some pro-Khalistan people. On the sidelines of the event, he told the media that the killing of Nijjar in British Columbia in June last year created «problem» and that he cannot ignore it, in an apparent reference to his earlier allegations of involvement of Indian agents in the assassination. «PM Trudeau has made such remarks earlier as well. His remarks illustrate once again the political space that has been given in Canada to separatism, extremism, and violence,» external affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at his weekly media briefing.

Logistics company Blue Dart Express on Thursday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 77.78 crore for the March quarter, registering a 12% increase on the back of revenue growth. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 69.44 crore in the year-ago period. The express air integrated transportation, and distribution logistics company, declared its financial results on Thursday for the March quarter and the entire 2023-24 fiscal year at its board meeting held in Mumbai.

India's mineral output rose 8 per cent in February as compared to the year-ago period, the government said on Thursday. The index of mineral production of the mining and quarrying sector for February 2024 at 139.6 is 8 per cent than February last year. The cumulative growth for the April-February period of 2023-24 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 8.2 per cent, as per the provisional statistics of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the mines ministry said in a statement. In February, the production of coal was 966 lakh tonnes, lignite 42 lakh tonnes, natural gas (utilised) 2,886 million cubic metre, petroleum (crude) 23 lakh tonne, among others, it said.

Gujarat Toolroom on Thursday said it has acquired a 65-acre land parcel in Gujarat to set up a green energy project at an investment of Rs 572 crore. «Upon completion, the Hybrid Power Plant aims to contribute 97.5 megawatts of clean and sustainable electricity to the grid, the company said in an exchange filing. The company said it aims to set up the plant in 3-5 years. The company has acquired 65 acres of land on long-term lease in Gujarat for the establishment of Green Energy Hybrid Power Plant Project worth Rs 5.72 billion, it said.

Revenue from operations during the January-March 2024 period declined 2% year-on-year to Rs 37,410 crore. The same stood at Rs 38,152 crore in the corresponding period of last year.

Ramkrishna Forgings Ltd (RKFL) on Thursday reported a 31 per cent rise in standalone net profit to Rs 87.30 crore for the January-March quarter of 2023-24. Its net profit was at Rs 66.82 crore in the January-March period of 2022-23, the company said in an exchange filing. The company's total income rose by 6 per cent to Rs 886.16 crore in the fourth quarter of FY24 compared to Rs 835.40 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Tata Projects on Thursday reported a profit after tax of Rs 120.57 crore for the quarter ended March 31 on the back of higher revenues. The company had posted a loss of Rs 366.42 crore in the year-ago period, Tata Projects said in a statement. These figures are after exceptional and/or extraordinary items.

Coal India has announced payment of a dividend of Rs 5 per share for the financial year ended 2023-24. The state miner on Thursday announced its March quarter earnings where it reported a 26% YoY growth in its consolidated net profit to Rs 8,682 crore.

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank has appointed Carol Furtado as executive director for three years with effect from May 1. The Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment. Ms Furtado has been with the bank since its inception and assumed various key positions including chief human resource officer, head of operations and service quality and chief business officer. She was a key member of the leadership team that laid the foundation of Ujjivan.

Coforge's board of directors have approved the acquisition of a 54% stake in Cigniti Technologies at a per share price of Rs 1,415, the company on Thursday said in its filing to the exchanges. The acquisition process is expected to be completed by Q2FY25. Coforge has agreed to enter into a share purchase agreement with the promoters and select public shareholders of Cigniti subject to execution of definitive agreements and completion of certain identified conditions precedent, the filing said.

India has lodged a strong protest with China for carrying out construction activities in the Shaksgam valley, in an «illegal» attempt to alter the situation on the ground. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that the Shaksgam valley is a part of India and New Delhi never accepted the so-called China-Pakistan boundary pact of 1963 through which Islamabad «unlawfully» attempted to cede the area to Beijing. «We have consistently conveyed our rejection of the same. We have registered our protest with the Chinese side against illegal attempts to alter facts on the ground,» Jaiswal said at his weekly media briefing. «We further reserve the right to take necessary measures to safeguard our interests,» he said.

Coming to the buildup of fresh short positions, when the stock prices move downward and open interest on the counter increases, it is taken as a sign of a short build-up. The signal is considered more reliable if the volume on the counter has also seen an increase as the stock price declines.
