Amaravati: Heat waves are likely to scorch 265 mandals in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, a senior official said. According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director R Kurmanadh, «severe» heat waves are expected in 31 of the 265 mandals. Fifteen mandals in Vizianagaram district, eight in Parvatipuram Manyam, five in Srikakulam, two in Prakasam and one in Alluri Sitaramaraju are likely to experience «severe» heat waves, Kurmanadh said on Wednesday. Similarly, heat waves have been predicted for 21 mandals in Palnadu district, 18 in Eluru, 16 each in Guntur and Nellore, and 15 in Srikakulam district among others.

Vedanta Group is targeting an investment of USD 20 billion across all its businesses in India over the next four years, its Chairman Anil Agarwal said on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh has overtaken Tamil Nadu in terms of monthly GST collections by recording a 19 per cent increase in tax revenues in April. According to official data, the GST collections in Uttar Pradesh grew 19 per cent to Rs 12,290 crore in April 2024, becoming the fourth largest contributor after Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. Tamil Nadu, which saw a 6 per cent rise in GST mop-up to Rs 12,210 crore in the month slipped to fifth place. Traditionally, GST collections in Tamil Nadu have been higher than that in Uttar Pradesh which is the largest state in terms of population. In April 2023, Tamil Nadu's GST collection was Rs 11,559 crore while Uttar Pradesh's was Rs 10,320 crore. In March 2024, Tamil Nadu's collection was Rs 11,017 crore, compared to Rs 9,087 crore of Uttar Pradesh. In February too, Tamil Nadu's mop-up was higher at Rs 9,713 crore, against Rs 8,054 crore of Uttar Pradesh.

Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) on Wednesday announced a Rs 5,400 crore investment plan for expanding its capacity by 4.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Speaking to journalists in Delhi, Abhyuday Jindal, JSL's Managing Director said this investment will be funded through internal accruals with minimal debt raise. Company officials said JSL expects its debt to rise by Rs 300-500 crore, over the existing Rs 4,800 crore, by the end of the current fiscal due to the expansion plans. JSL said it will be developing and operating a stainless steel melt shop (SMS) in Indonesia with an annual production capacity of 1.2 MTPA. This will increase the company’s melting capacity by over 40% to 4.2 MTPA at a Rs 700 crore investment. This investment will be made through Jindal Stainless' Singapore based subsidiary which will enter into Joint Venture (JV) with Zenith International Capital Pte. Ltd, to operate the SMS in Indonesia.

stainless steel manufacturing company Jindal Stainless on Wednesday announced a 'three-pronged' investment strategy worth nearly Rs 5,400 crore for its melting and downstream capacities. Jindal Stainless has entered into a joint venture in Indonesia for developing, operating a stainless steel melt shop that has an annual production capacity of 1.2 MTPA. “For the Indonesian SMS, the partner entity is of international repute with extensive experience in running such projects. The downstream expansion in Jajpur and acquisition of CSPL are aligned with the Indonesian SMS capacity,” Jindal Stainless said in a stock exchange filing.

Naveen Patnaik has declared assets valued at Rs 71.07 crore, up by over Rs 7 crore in the last five years, as mentioned in an affidavit filed by him in the Election Commission. The BJD chief had shown assets of Rs 63.87 crore in 2019. Patnaik on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Hinjili assembly segment to seek election for the sixth time along with the 64-page affidavit in which he mentioned movable assets of over Rs 14.05 crore and immovable properties worth Rs 57.02 crore. His movable assets include term deposits in various banks and post offices, while Rs 13.66-crore Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar and a Rs 43.35-crore house at APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi are among his immovable assets.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday issued a summons to the brother of arrested and suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh in connection with its ongoing investigation of the alleged land grabbing in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali. Shajahan's brother, Sheikh Sirajuddin, who the central probe agency believes has played a crucial role in the scam, has been absconding, he said. «We have summoned Shajahan's brother to appear before our officers on May 6 at our Kolkata office in connection with the land grab case. Our officers went to his residence in search of him but he was not there,» the official told PTI. CBI officers put up the 'summons' notice on Sirajuddin's residence before leaving.

Delhi Police have revealed that the email used to threaten over 80 Delhi-NCR schools in the early hours of Wednesday contained the word 'Sawaraiim', which is an Arabic word used by the Islamic State since 2014. According to the sources, the email ID from which Delhi NCR schools were sent the threat letter is '[email protected].' The investigation so far has revealed that 'Sawariim' (clashing of the swords) is an Arabic word, that has been used by the Islamic State since 2014 to spread Islamist propaganda.
