Sisodia to approach Delhi HC against city court order rejecting bail in excise policy scam case
Manish Sisodia will approach the high court against a city court's Tuesday order, refusing bail to him in the alleged excise policy scam case, AAP said. In a statement, the party said that Sisodia's bail plea was rejected by the Rouse Avenue Court. The court dismissed Sisodia's bail pleas in corruption and money-laundering cases lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and execution of the excise policy of 2021-22. Special judge Kaveri Baweja denied the relief, saying the stage is not right to grant bail to Sisodia.

BJP is not a family party, says Bihar deputy CM Samrat Choudhary
Bihar deputy CM and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary in an interaction with ET dismissed the notion that low voter turnout would impact the NDA while expressing confidence that the difference between the NDA and the opposition is high. He further added that low voting percentage won't impact the NDA in terms of winnability of seats. «Where is the new vote going to the opposition? In Bihar, the fight is at 80:20. Therefore, low polling is not going to impact us. In fact, we are determined to do better than 2019,» Choudhary told ET. In 2019, the NDA had won 39 of the 40 Bihar seats with JDU and LJP as their allies. The BJP leader said that there are around 20 seats in Bihar where the opposition has almost given a walk over. Talking about JDU joining the NDA again, Choudhary said the alliance is natural with a strong vote bank.

WhatsApp, take it easy, seek the law
WhatsApp cannot issue GoI — or any government, for that matter — a fait accompli over encryption. The right to privacy is by no means absolute in any system of law, and governments are well within their rights to seek with due process information for law enforcement. There can be debate over what constitutes due process, and how to go about satisfying its requirements. In these pursuits, law and technology need to come closer on the art of the possible. But absolute positions, such as threatening to stop services if forced to dilute encryption on occasion, can end up badly. Indian courts, unfortunately, have a long list of precedents that fetter fundamental rights. So, it would be better for everyone that things don't come to such a pass.

BJP is scared of Mulayam's family: Shivpal Yadav
Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav on Monday claimed the ruling BJP is scared of Mulayam Singh Yadav's family and warned that the more its leaders speak against this family, the more the victory margin of SP will be in the Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to PTI, he also expressed confidence that in the third phase of general elections, candidates of the SP and INDIA bloc will win all 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh. «BJP leaders are scared of Netaji's (SP founder late Mulayam Singh Yadav) family. The more they speak against Netaji and our family, the more the victory margin of SP candidates will be,» Shivpal Yadav said when asked about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's allegation that whatever the SP has is not for the party but for «one family». Shivpal Yadav is the younger brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Patanjali Group companies face GST heat, receives show-cause notices
Patanjali Foods, a leading FMCG player in India, is under scrutiny as it has been served a show-cause notice by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Chandigarh for an alleged undue claim of Rs. 27.5 crore in input tax credit (ITC). This notice, issued under the CGST Act, highlights a potential discrepancy in the company's tax filings that could result in penalties. In response to the notice, a spokesperson for Patanjali Foods stated, «The Company has received a Show Cause Notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Chandigarh Zonal Unit. The Company, its Officers, and authorized signatories were asked to explain why input tax credit amounting to Rs 27,46,14,343 should not be recovered (with interest), and why penalties should not be imposed under Section 74 and other applicable provisions of the CGST Act 2017/Uttarakhand SGST Act, 2017, in conjunction with section 20 of IGST Act 2017.» The company has asserted its intention to vigorously defend its position before the authorities.
