The NGHM was launched in January 2023 with an initial outlay of ₹19,744 crore, which included ₹17,490 crore for the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme and ₹1,466 crore for pilot projects.

Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked his Cabinet colleagues to prepare a blueprint of their ministries' development work for the next five years, sources said. In the last Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, Modi also suggested all Cabinet ministers to prepare an actionable agenda for the next 100 days, they said. The ministers have been asked to submit these details to the Cabinet Secretariat in the coming days, the sources told ET. Modi has indicated that ministers should prepare the roadmap of their respective ministries for next term, they said. However, this should be done without keeping in mind who would have positions in the Cabinet after the 2024 elections.

Iron ore mining companies and steelmakers that do not have captive mines are at loggerheads over the export of the raw material, in a bid to safeguard their interests. Secondary steel producers from Odisha and Chhattisgarh have pitched for an «immediate ban on iron ore exports» as the outflow of raw materials is putting pressure on their industry. The Federation of Indian Mineral Industries, representing iron ore producers, has opposed any such move. A third grouping, comprising primary steel producers, has called for import restrictions on finished steel products but maintain silence over the suggestions for export duty on iron ore. «While raw material (iron ore) prices are rising domestically, imports of steel from China have also surged this fiscal. Bharat needs to safeguard its Aatmanirbharta in steel by curbing imports,» said a representative from the Indian Steel Association, whose members include the country's top steelmakers. Most primary steel producers source all the iron ore they need from their captive mines. Others meet part of their raw material requirement from the open market.

In an order on February 16, the home ministry had directed the shutdown of internet in several districts of Punjab, including Patiala, Sangrur and Fatehgarh Sahib, till February 24. Internet ban by Haryana and Rajasthan in districts bordering Punjab will also see partial modifications, said officials. The home ministry had ordered suspension of internet services in areas falling under Shambhu, Julkan, Passian, Patran, Shatrana, Samana, Ghanaur, Devigarh and Balbhera police stations in Patiala; Lalru police station in Mohali; Sangat police station in Bathinda; Killianwali police station in Muktsar; Sardulgarh and Boha police stations in Mansa; Khanauri, Moonak, Lehra, Sunam and Chajli police stations in Sangrur; and areas under Fatehgarh Sahib police station. The Centre used its powers under the Telegraph Act of 1885 to suspend internet services.

Mahindra Holidays & Resorts has entered into an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government for investing Rs 500 crore in the state and is in talks with the governments in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir for investment opportunities, the vacation timeshare company’s top executive said. “We are in active discussions with state governments to see if we can get land parcels or existing resorts. We could also take over and refurbish existing resorts,” managing director and chief executive Kavinder Singh told ET in an interview. “If we have to go from 5,000 to 10,000 keys by 2030, our capex is going to be in the order of Rs 4,000-5,000 crore. We are really strong on our cash position.” The Mahindra Group company has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand in the past one year for investments worth Rs 1,800 crore to build new resorts.

Procurement of services through government buying portal GeM touched Rs 1.82 lakh crore as of February 22, an official statement said on Friday. It was Rs 8,500 crore in 2020-21, the commerce ministry said. It added that two bids placed by South Eastern Coalfield Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore, have catapulted the share of service procurement this month. GeM CEO P K Singh said that the GeM has harnessed digital capabilities and has emerged as a one-stop-shop for procurement of all possible services that may be required by Government buyers at various levels of administration.
