Election Commission is set to announce the dates of 2024 Lok Sabha elections later today. In all probability, and looking at the previous Lok Sabha polls, the EC is likely to conduct the elections in 5-7 phases.
In 2019, the Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases, from April 11 to May 19. In 2014, polls were conducted in nine phases.
In 2019, EC held elections in 16 states and all union territories in one go.
However, polls were held in two phases in Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan, and Tripura.
In Assam and Chattisgarh, polls were held in three phases.
In Jharkhand, Madya Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra, elections were held in three phases in 2019.
Jammu and Kashmir saw five phase polling last time while big states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal saw seven phases.
