Financial Review journalists are finalists in the 68th Walkley awards for excellence in journalism for their coverage of PwC and Fortescue, two of the biggest business news stories of the year.
Reporters Neil Chenoweth and Edmund Tadros, columnists James Thomson and Joe Aston and The Fin podcast team Lisa Murray, Alex Gow and Lap Phan are all finalists for the coverage of a major news event, or issues category, for the PwC tax leaks scandal.
The story ultimately led to the breaking up of the accounting firm in Australia and the biggest crackdown on misconduct by tax advisers in Australian history.

Chenoweth and Tadros are also finalists in the investigative journalism and business journalism category for their PwC reporting.
Peter Ker and Brad Thompson are finalists for in the business journalism category for their scoop on the demise of the 31-year marriage of mining billionaire Andrew Forrest and wife Nicola. Their review of corporate filings revealed the split via share transfers making Mrs Forrest the biggest holder of Fortescue shares.

Reporters and photographers from The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age are also finalists across multiple categories.
Walkley Foundation chief executive Shona Martyn said that “at a time when the importance of strong and incisive journalism is magnified”, the finalists include stellar coverage of pressing issues.
“The quality of the finalists is high, and they are all to be commended for shining a light on darkness and on telling the stories that need to be told in their own mediums,” she said.
