show cause notice to Air India after a 20-hour delay on a Delhi-San Francisco flight. The Tata Group-owned airline has been asked to respond within three days.
«It has come to the notice of DGCA that flight Al-179 dated 24.05.2024 and flight Al- 183 dated 30.05.2024 were inordinately delayed and passengers were put to discomfort due to insufficient cooling in the cabin,» said the ministry in the notice.
The flight on Thursday was delayed with passengers being made to sit inside the aircraft without air-conditioning in the capital's searing heat. Some of them allegedly fainted in the heat, while others pleaded to be allowed to alight.
Some passengers of the flight took to social media complaining about the delay and one of them pointed out the air conditioning issue in the flight.

This is inhuman! @JM_Scindia,» Shweta Punj, a journalist, said in a post on X on Thursday night.
She also shared a picture of passengers sitting on the floor at the Delhi airport.
The airline official said the aircraft had developed a technical issue and engineering checks were carried out.
In March, aviation security watchdog BCAS had issued new guidelines that will allow the exit of passengers from an aircraft through an airport departure gate in case there is a long delay in
