New slabs announced in new income tax regime
As per experts, this is happening for the first time that Apple has reduced prices for its Pro models. Traditionally, the company discontinues the Pro models after the new generation of Pro models are launched in the market and only the inventory of older Pro models is cleared by dealers and resellers by selective discounts. The maximum retail price (MRP) of the Pro models was not reduced.
However, Apple has taken a different stance on Pro models this time following a reduction in basic customs duty on mobile phones to 15% from 20% in the Budget. Apart from mobile phones, the customs duty has been slashed in printed circuit board assembly for mobile phones and mobile phone chargers.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has immediately passed on the benefits of the custom duty cuts to the consumers.
Currently, imported smartphones sold in India attract 18% GST and 22% customs duty (20% basic and 2% surcharge). The surcharge, which is 10% of the basic customs duty, will remain. After the cut, the total customs duty will be 16.5% (15% basic and 1.5% surcharge).
