Qatar Airways from 5 November.
Al Meer is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport at Doha.
Akbar Al Baker who has been CEO for 27 years of the Doha-based airline has announced his resignation a little while ago.
It was not immediately clear why Al Baker, who was appointed CEO in 1997, three years after the airline launched, is retiring.
Al Baker has been instrumental in transforming Qatar Airways into a major international carrier that competes against the likes of Dubai's Emirates and Turkish Airlines.
One of the defining features of Al Baker’s leadership was the significant expansion of the airline’s fleet and network. Qatar Airways’ fleet grew both in terms of size and quality, with state-of-the-art aircraft equipped with cutting-edge technology.
This expansion has allowed the airline to reach more destinations and serve an even larger audience worldwide also helping Doha Airport to become a major transit hub of the world.
