Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, Times of India reported. The report cited a notification from NHAI which states that the movement of high speed vehicles may pose risk to the safety of certain classes of comparatively slow moving vehicles such as bikes, autos, tractors, non-motorized vehicles and others. So NHAI has prohibited six categories of vehicles such as motor cycles (including scooters), three wheelers (including e-carts and e-rickshaws), non-motorized vehicles, tractors with or without trailers, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles and quadri-cycles on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.
However, these categories of vehicles can use the service road built along the expressway, an official told Times of India. According to news reports, over 300 road accidents have been reported on the expressway in five months, forcing authorities to take more safety measures. NHAI had earlier constituted a committee of road safety experts to carry out safety inspection of Bengaluru – Mysuru Access Controlled Highway, which was opened to traffic in March 2023.
The 118 km long Bengaluru – Mysuru access controlled highway has cut travel time between the two cities in the state of Karnataka by almost half to just 75 minutes. The corridor also entails 4 rail overbridges, 9 major bridges, 40 minor bridges, 89 underpasses and overpasses. The highway also provides inter-state connectivity to Karnataka with Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
