Tamil Nadu have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall over the past few days. Similar conditions were observed in coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, according to India Meteorological Department. Numerous locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and south interior Karnataka reported thunderstorms. Thunderstorms also occurred sporadically in Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka.

A cyclonic circulation is present over south interior Tamil Nadu and its vicinity at both low and mid-tropospheric levels. Additionally, a trough extends from Madhya Maharashtra to south Tamil Nadu in the lower tropospheric levels. Due to these meteorological influences, the following conditions are expected, according to IMD.
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph), is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka. Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with similar conditions is expected over coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema for the next seven days.
Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over coastal Karnataka on 20th, and 23rd; south interior Karnataka on May 22nd and 23rd; coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.
