Kerala within the next 24 hours, with expectations for it to also advance into some parts of the northeastern states, the India Meteorological Department said in its latest update. Furthermore, the IMD said, the conditions support the further progression of the southwest Monsoon into additional areas of the South Arabian Sea, the remaining regions of the Maldives and the Comorin area, parts of the Lakshadweep area, and further regions of the Southwest and Central Bay of Bengal, the Northeast Bay of Bengal, and parts of the Northeastern states during this period.
A shear zone is present along over southern peninsular India at middle tropospheric levels, accompanied by strong westerly winds along the Kerala coast. As a result, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) is expected over Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Karnataka over the next seven days, and over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema from June 1st to 4th, 2024, the IMD said.
Heavy rainfall is predicted to be isolated over Kerala and Mahe for the next five days, over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 31st to June 2nd, and over Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka on June 1st and 2nd, 2024. Strong surface winds (30-40 kmph) are likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 29th to 31st, and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka from May 31st to June 2nd.
