“We absolutely despise the manner in which the court is being taken for a ride. This is complete disservice to the court. This order is for execution (of consent order), it has been confirmed by the Supreme Court. There was an amount to be paid. Give us a date (for payment). What is this Mathematics?,” Justice Anish Dayal told senior counsel Amit Sibal, who appeared for Spicejet.
While further observing that the airline was “making a fool of us” and “corporate anarchy” could not be allowed, the court directed the airline to pay $2.67 million to its lessors in a week and also deposit $335,999 with the court’s registrar in three weeks.
Justice Dayal on Thursday also said that “the court’s majesty cannot be diluted,” while asking Sibal to “stop wasting the court’s time.”
Both Singh and the deputy CFO were personally present before the court, following summons issued last month to them over the airline's failure to pay lessors.
