In 2019, the same Nitish Kumar had rejected the offer from the BJP to get a ministerial berth in the NDA government at Centre as a “symbolic representation”. Since the assembly polls are due early next year in 2025, the JDU may not miss this opportunity to make its presence felt in national politics.
The party may bargain important ministries as its share in the new government which the NDA forms at the Centre. During the campaign, CM Nitish kept on saying that he would stay with the NDA in future.
“He is one among very few leaders who directly talks to PM Narendra Modi. So, it would be easy for him to protect the political interest of his party as well as his state in the new government,” said a source in the BJP. Sources in the JDU said CM Nitish may demand at least two cabinet berths and one minister of state.
