In a bold Instagram Threads post, Wilson addressed the incident with biting sarcasm. «Let's call a spade a f***ing spade,» she wrote, playing with the phrase while seemingly referencing the gesture. Her commentary included a tongue-in-cheek defense suggesting the entire incident might be a misunderstanding about card suits.
Later Wilson posted another thread stating, «Hi y’all, I need to come on here and say something which is that I straight up had no idea about the other connotations that the word ‘spade’ had, if I did I would never have chosen to use that for the analogy. My apologies.»
The controversy caught the attention of prominent political figures, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jerry Nadler, who condemned the gesture. Notably, the Anti-Defamation League offered a more measured response, suggesting Musk made an «awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm.»
