Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, Bengaluru police department is planning to deduct fines directly from the FASTag accounts of vehicles caught traveling above 100kmph on the six-lane highway. As per a ToI report, the proposal is currently in its early stages as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently exploring the possibilities of implementing the new penalty system.

Alok Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police for road safety and traffic, has requested NHAI officials to assess the feasibility of deducting the fines from FASTag accounts and transferring the amounts to the government, ToI report stated. Presently, any fines collected from FASTag accounts are directed to the NHAI.

However, the new plan aims to ensure that the deducted fines are directly deposited into the government's account. Alok Kumar told ToI that the department plans to expedite the implementation of the project if it proves viable.

Due to the increasing number of accidents on the expressway, the police traffic department has imposed a speed limit of 100 kmph. To enforce this speed limit on the expressway, interceptors have been installed at multiple locations, imposing a Rs 1,000 fine on the speed limit violating.
