supernatural horror film "Five Nights at Freddy’s" has clinched the top spot at the box office, dethroning, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour."
The latter had held the coveted position for two consecutive weekends. According to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo, the video game-based horror flick raked in an impressive $39.46 million on its opening night, setting the stage for a projected $78 million opening weekend, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
«Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour» saw a significant drop to second place, garnering earnings of $4.8 million.
The success of both the concert movie and Swift's tour has propelled her net worth to an astonishing $1.1 billion, as per Bloomberg's recent report.
Martin Scorsese's Western crime drama, «Killers of the Flower Moon,» claimed the third spot with $2.675 million take. This film boasts a lengthier-than-usual runtime of 3 hours and 26 minutes, prompting some independent theaters to implement an intermission.
However, these theaters were promptly notified by studio representatives of their violation of the movie's licensing agreement.
Further down the ranks, «After Death,» a documentary chronicling the experiences of near-death survivors, secured the fourth position, earning close to $2.2 million. Meanwhile, «The Exorcist: Believer,» which held the third spot last week, slipped to fifth place with sales totaling $990,000.
