The 33.20 update was released on January 14, 2025, with a downtime that started at 12:30 AM PT and lasted three hours. Matchmaking was disabled during this period, though players could still download the update.
The update marks the start of preparations for the Monsterverse collaboration, launching on January 17. Fortnite teased fans with an image showing a massive Godzilla footprint near the Shining Span bridge, suggesting a live event is imminent.

On January 13, a trailer showed Godzilla stomping through Seaport City, offering players a cinematic preview. Kong appeared subtly as a decal on a new car body skin, hinting at his involvement.
