Hudson’s longtime friend and associate, Jam Haust, informed Rolling Stone of his death. While the cause remains undisclosed, Haust shared that Hudson “died peacefully,” and that “yesterday was filled with music and hand-holding.”
Born on August 3, 1937, in London, Ontario, Garth Hudson became one of the most creative keyboardists in rock history. His parents were both talented musicians — his mother played the piano, and his father, a farm inspector and entomologist played various wind instruments.

Soon captivated by rock & roll, Hudson played both piano and sax in the Capers and supported the famous artists such as Johnny Cash and Bill Haley. Eventually, Ronnie Hawkins invited him to join his band, the hawks, which featured Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko.
