Viral videos on social media, including one shared by journalist Kamit Solanki, captured the event. One video shows the family’s car, a Wagon R, being carefully lowered down a 15-foot pit on a slope.
Sanjay Polara, the family head, shared that they wanted to create a “lasting memory for future generations” with this car, which he described as having “brought good fortune” to them. Polara, who runs a construction business in Surat, said, “I bought this car nearly 12 years ago, and it brought prosperity to the family. My business flourished, and my family gained respect. This car proved to be lucky for us. So, instead of selling it, I chose to give it a samadhi at my farm as a tribute.”
The family adorned the car with floral decorations and ceremonial garlands. From the Polara residence, the car was transported to their farmland, where it was carefully placed into the prepared pit. TOI reported that the family conducted farewell rituals, covering the car with a green cloth, performing a puja, and showering it with rose petals as priests chanted mantras. Finally, they laid the vehicle to rest by covering the pit with soil.
