Gurugram received 71 mm of rainfall till 8 am on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has closed all underpasses and subways for non-motorised transport (NMT), and pedestrians for public use till the rains last. Several two-wheeler and cycle riders were unable to spot potholes and fell into the murky water on Golf Course Extension Road, Sector 69 Sector 5, Basai Road, and Narsingpur.
Gurugram deputy commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar Yadav told Hindustan Times that they are trying to remove access water using pumps from all the spots and have closed the subways and underpasses for the safety of commuters. According to a survey conducted via the LocalCircles platform, up to 93% of commuters in Gurugram felt they "end up losing working hours or productivity" due to waterlogging and traffic woes during the monsoon season. And, 96% of commuters in the city said they "end up spending much more time in traffic" due to waterlogging.
Residents of Gurugram experienced the worst waterlogging and related troubles when compared to their counterparts in Delhi and Noida. The survey asked if people faced increased wear and tear in their vehicles or were at a higher risk of accidents during the monsoon season due to waterlogging. In Gurugram, 82% of respondents said they faced "vehicle wear and tear and related costs" while the figures for Delhi and Noida stood at 70% and 42%, respectively.
