photography. Shreyovi Mehta, a Class Five student from Faridabad near Delhi, has now bagged the much-coveted Wildlife Photographer of the Year award. Shreyovi managed to capture the photo of a pair of peafowls, while she was on a morning walk in the forests of Keoladev National Park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
Mehta was taking a stroll in the forest with her family when she came across the birds. She rushed to get the cameras from her father and took the picture deftly. The photo, which was titled ‘In The Spotlight’, showed a couple of birds relaxing under the trees without a care in the world.
Mehta secured the runner-up position in the ‘10 Years and Under’ category of the 60th Wildlife Photography Awards. Her entry stood out among nearly 60,000 submissions from photographers of all ages and skill levels, representing 117 countries and regions.
The peacock, India's national bird, plays a significant cultural role.
Mehta’s father Shivang, is also a seasoned photographer. In an interview with the news agency PTI, she said she would like to pursue a career in wildlife photography.
According to PTI, she will be honoured with a medal at an award ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London on October 8.
