The exact timeframe of the outages remains unclear, as does whether they were temporary technical issues or intentional shutdowns.
How USAID Fell to Elon Musk’s DOGE
USAID faced an unprecedented shutdown on Monday after Elon Musk, with President Trump’s backing, moved to dismantle the six-decade-old agency. Over 600 employees were locked out of their systems overnight and barred from entering the Washington headquarters.
Employees who attempted to access the building on Monday were met with security restrictions. Department of Homeland Security officers had sealed off the lobby with yellow “Do Not Cross” tape, allowing staff inside only to collect personal belongings before closing off the premises entirely.
Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a civilian review team authorized by Trump—defended the shutdown during a live session on X Spaces.
