dark comedy series, "I Hate People, People Hate Me," is set to premiere on CBC Gem this November, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Created and starring Bobbi Summers, the six-episode show explores the lives of two friends navigating Toronto's queer community as outsiders.
Here is the trailer.
The series, produced by LoCo Motion Pictures, will launch on November 7, with the first two episodes available on the CBC Comedy YouTube channel the same day. A mature-themed trailer has also been released, offering a first look at the show, featuring Lily Kazimiera and Alden McWayne.
The show delves into the concept of queer identity in an era where queerness has become more mainstream and commercialized. It draws inspiration from films like Ghost World, Good Burger, and Welcome to the Dollhouse, as well as Summers' personal diaries from their twenties. The story follows Jovi (Summers) and Tabitha (Kazimiera), two individuals perpetually disheartened by the world around them, who connect over their shared disdain for their peers and society. The series also addresses themes of suicidal feelings and drug abuse.
Throughout the series, the duo's escapades include experimenting with antidepressants, exploring their sexuality, and grappling with existential crises in Toronto. The show presents a version of the city that is more like a graphic novel, filtered through Summers' desire to infuse everything with a live-action cartoon feel and a touch of darkness.
The show features an original soundtrack composed and recorded by Summers and is executive produced by
