BabyBus, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner Brendan Carr told ET.
The chief of FCC – an independent agency of the US government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the nation – also said he found the work India is doing to provide access to the internet and telecommunication services to every citizen “very admirable”.
“India should take a hard look at BabyBus and their operations in the country in order to keep up the good work they have done when it comes to keeping their people safe from data-hungry Chinese apps,” he said in an exclusive telephonic interview.
Commending India’s swift ban of TikTok, Carr said he is hopeful of the US Congress making progress on this front this year.
ET had reported last month that experts have raised questions over the handling of Indians’ data by BabyBus whose apps are massively popular in the country.
BabyBus provides customised free digital content primarily for children up to the age of eight through over 200 gaming apps.
Now, three of the top 11 most “data-hungry” child-targeted apps in the world are from the BabyBus stable, according to research by data privacy firm Incogni. These are Baby Panda World: Kids Games (over 100 million downloads), BabyBus Kids: Video&Game World (over 10 million downloads) and Baby Panda’s Kids Play (over 10 million downloads).
India and Indonesia “collectively accounted for a 60% share of (BabyBus' gaming app)
