Mourning Dr Singh’s death, Murthy said his leading the economic reforms, under the guidance of the late PM PV Narasimha Rao, is what laid a strong and durable foundation for the acceleration of India’s economic growth. “Therefore, every Indian should be extremely grateful to this extraordinary individual for enhancing the prosperity of our country,” Murthy said in a statement.
Singh shared a warm relationship with the Bengaluru-headquartered IT giant.
As Prime Minister, Singh inaugurated the global education center at the 270-acre Mysore campus in February 2005 when Murthy was its chairman and chief mentor. The PM had also visited the Infosys Leadership Institute in the same campus. In January 2011, he also flew down to Mumbai and participated in an Infosys event to give away its annual prize across five categories.
In June 2009, it was Singh who invited Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to join his government and lead the Unique ID Authority of India (UIDAI), which famously led to Indians getting their Aadhaar cards and other banking and fintech revolution.
