In the video, Subrahmanyan responded to a question about L&T's six-day workweek. He expressed regret that the company could not make its employees work on Sundays, suggesting that if given the opportunity, he would be «happier» if employees worked seven days a week. “I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be more happy, because I work on Sundays,” he remarked, questioning the usefulness of time off. “What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? Come on, get to the office and start working,” he added.
Subrahmanyan went on to cite an interaction with a Chinese professional to further support his stance. «Chinese people work 90 hours a week, while Americans work only 50 hours a week. If you have got to be on top of the world, you have to work 90 hours a week,» he said, emphasizing the need for hard work to stay competitive on the global stage.
