«Nine persons have been arrested by the police. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is keeping an eye on the issue. We met the parents of the student,» education minister Bratya Basu said in Kolkata on Wednesday.
The first-year Bengali Honours student allegedly fell from the second-floor balcony of the university's main hostel on August 9 after he was allegedly ragged. He died in hospital the next day. The education minister was part of a five-member Trinamool delegation which visited Nadia district on Wednesday.

The dean could not reach the police headquarters as he was gheraoed by students. «We will continue to gherao until the dean resigns,» a student said. Chancellor of the university, governor CV Ananda Bose, called an emergency meeting of university officials in the absence of the vice-chancellor.
