Kamala Harris's previous condemnations of domestic abuse and sexual assault perpetrators are coming back to haunt her in the wake of allegations that Doug Emhoff slapped her ex-girlfriend. This is because there is no evidence that her now-husband forcefully slapped an ex-girlfriend more than ten years ago. Critics point to Harris' previous statements supporting survivors of abuse, which have sparked renewed debate in light of the Emhoff allegations.

Critics of Harris quickly capitalized on the alleged abuse, which they said was caused by Emhoff's misguided jealousy that he thought his beau was flirting with another man. They cited years in which the vice president asserted that she believes women who have experienced sexual assault.
