Magic: The Gathering (MTG) series has undergone several changes since its initial announcement. The series still lacks an official release date and a concrete storyline.
The MTG series has had several changes in its production team. Initially, Joe and Anthony Russo were attached to the project but later exited due to creative differences. Following their departure, Jeff Kline from Transformers: Prime was selected to lead the series' development. However, the project shifted again, and the new creative direction is now headed by executive producer and showrunner Terry Matalas, known for his work on 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard. Patrick Osborne, who won an Academy Award for his work on the short film Feast, will be the supervising director and an executive producer.

There is no official release date for the MTG series till now. Netflix mentioned during Geeked Week 2024 that production is ongoing. The press release did not provide further details. The development timeline remains unclear.
Although Netflix has not provided specific details about the storyline, some hints suggest a focus on Chandra, a Planeswalker with fire-conjuring abilities. A teaser image released shows a woman holding an open flame. It further fuelled speculation that Chandra will play a central role in the show.
