A senior CR official told TOI stated that this adjustment would enhance overall operational efficiency. Currently, Central Railway operates 894 services on its main line, including 623 slow services and 271 fast services, with many starting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
Additionally, CR is considering extending the services of six CSMT-Thane locals to Kalyan. This extension aims to accommodate the growing population beyond Thane, which has seen significant growth over the past few decades. The increased connectivity to Kalyan is expected to better serve the transportation needs of these expanding regions.
Furthermore, 24 slow corridor services currently operating from Dadar will be shifted to Parel, increasing the total number of services from Parel to 46. This change is intended to help decongest Dadar, providing more service options for passengers from Parel.
Despite these adjustments, no new services have been added to the timetable due to the lack of available space for additional trains. These strategic changes are designed to optimize the existing infrastructure and improve the overall efficiency of the Central Railway's operations.
