The final outcome is a panoramic view providing the most thorough depiction of the whole galaxy. Its scientific characteristics can potentially revolutionize and expand our knowledge of how spiral galaxies arise and grow across the cosmos.

In the year 2015, scientists at Hubble Space Telescope began the challenging task of stitching together images of Andromeda, but their efforts were confined to the galaxy's northern half. However, the final photograph had a panoramic view of 100 million stars crammed into more than 1.5 billion pixels.

During the 245th American Astronomical Society (AAS) news conference in Maryland, Zhuo Chen of the University of Washington informed reporters that she and her colleagues had recently completed a comparable endeavour for the galaxy's southern half, adding about 100 million stars to the previous mosaic.
«It's like photographing a beach and resolving individual grains of sand,» said Chen.
