Gadkari, who represents Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency, inspected the runway on Monday morning. During the inspection, he addressed the ongoing delays, expressing his frustration with the slow progress. «People suffer because of rescheduling of flights and inflated prices of tickets,» Gadkari stated, highlighting the impact on the public.
The runway recarpeting work was last carried out in 2013-14 by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Mihan India Limited (MIL), which operates the Nagpur airport along with AAI, stated that the project is expected to be completed by May 2025, provided the runway is available for at least eight hours a day. However, Gadkari made it clear that this timeline is unacceptable and set a strict deadline of one month for the completion of the work.
Gadkari attributed the delays to «negligence by the contractor and AAI» and added that an affidavit was filed in court explaining the delay, citing the poll code for the Maharashtra assembly elections. He
