Murmu hailed the “One nation-One Election” Bill as a move that will redefine good governance by promoting consistency in administration, checking policy paralysis that is caused by the frequent imposition of model code of conduct, reducing substantially the financial burden incurred by frequent polls and lowering the diversion of resources. In her address to the nation on the eve of the 76th Republic Day, she touched upon various achievements of her government such as financial inclusion, legal and educational reforms and the use of modern technology that have helped the country march ahead.

“We won freedom in 1947, but many relics of a colonial mindset persisted among us for long. Of late, we have been witnessing concerted efforts to change that mindset. Among the most noteworthy of such efforts was the decision to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam,” President Murmu said.
The new criminal laws place the delivery of justice ahead of punishment, a concept based on Indian traditions of jurisprudence, she underlined. The new laws also grant top priority to countering crimes against women and children.
