Addressing a press conference, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said that the injured individuals, which included four men and one woman aged between 18 and 22, had sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Notably, four of the victims were students at Morgan State University.
The police responded to reports of gunshots around 9:25 p.m. local time and discovered multiple shattered windows on campus.
Although the active shooter warning was lifted after two hours, no arrests were announced, and the police did not disclose any details regarding potential suspects.
Morgan State University President David Wilson announced the cancellation of all classes for the following day.
The incident occurred during a significant week for the university, as it was celebrating the coronation of Mister & Miss Morgan State University on Tuesday in anticipation of its homecoming game on Saturday.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore said his office was monitoring the situation closely and acknowledging the efforts of first responders.
After the active shooter warning was lifted, he expressed gratitude for the quick response of law enforcement and their ongoing efforts to ensure safety.
