At present, both Musk and President Trump have been publicly acknowledging their mutual admiration for one another. In an interview with Fox News, the US President said that Elon Musk is a smart guy and is doing a great job as DOGE head.
Musk has become more powerful in Trump's team as he has got access to federal payments system and now shutting US foreign aid agency USAID.

Elon is a smart guy, says Trump
President Donald Trump said Elon is doing a great job. «I think Elon is doing a good job. He's a big cost-cutter. Sometimes we won't agree with it. It will not go where he wants to go. But he is doing a great job. He’s a smart guy… he's very much into cutting the budget of our federal government,» Trump said.
